I am a recent graduate of the Interactive Journalism Master of Arts program at the Reynolds School of Journalism at the University of Nevada, Reno. I began the master’s program in August 2013 after I received my B.A. in journalism and mass communications from New Mexico State University in May 2013.
I have experience producing both traditional and digital journalism work. I also have experience contributing strategy and creative work to strategic communications projects.
My interests in journalism and strategic communications originally revolved around sports. I first served as sports editor of my high school newspaper. In my first year of college, I worked as a staff reporter for sports for the college newspaper. I spent my final three years of my undergraduate career working as a sports information student assistant for the athletic department.
As I transitioned from undergraduate to graduate school, my interests began to expand. I gained a newfound interest in data journalism and data visualization. I also spent more time learning about emerging trends in media innovation and journalism. I discovered much of the experimentation in journalism while I interned with Knight Foundation, which also sparked an interest in media innovation, community engagement, creative placemaking and technology reporting.
Some of my professional work from the world of journalism and media are:
- Knight Foundation (communications)
- UNR Tech Connect (co-founder)
- Reynolds School of journalism (teaching assistant)
- New Mexico State University Sports Information (track and field, cross country, tennis)
In addition, follow these links to see the work I have produced and contributed to:

- NMSU sports information press releases
- NMSU sports information media guides (men’s and women’s tennis – 2010, track and field/XC – 2011, 2012)

Technical skills have little utility if one does not possess the proper attitude to apply those skills. Led by a strong sense of initiative and effective multitasking abilities, I constantly refine my skills to perform at the highest level. I am always open to improvement and respect the courage for people to speak the truth. To accompany my personal strengths, the following are some of technical skills and digital platforms I know:
- Adobe PhotoShop and InDesign
- InVision Wire Framing application
- Google Analytics
- Final Cut Pro
- AP Style
